What are the benefits of CBD oil?

What is CBD oil? It’s a question that is being asked more and more, with various brands choosing to add CBD to existing or brand new products, but is it good for you? Why should you try it?

These are all questions we’ve asked ourselves, yet often struggle to find the answers we were searching for. In this blog post, we’ll delve deep into what CBD is, what makes it so special and how it might help you.

What is CBD?

Let’s start with the big one. What is CBD oil?

CBD or as it’s formally known Cannabidiol is one of over 100 chemical compounds found within the cannabis plant.

People often mistake hemp oil and CBD for being the same substance, however, The National Center for Biotechnology Information highlights that CBD was first isolated from hemp oil in the 1940s and explains that the two are different substances.

The key difference between the two is that hemp oil is harvested from seeds, whereas CBD is extracted from the buds of the cannabis plant.

Often CBD is also mistakenly believed to be psychoactive, making those who consume it ‘high’, however, this isn’t true. CBD is not psychoactive, unlike THC.

You’d also be forgiven for thinking that CBD and cannabis-derived therapeutic treatments are a modern invention, but they have been around for thousands of years, with the first documented use of cannabis related products being used for medicine occurring in 2,737 BC.

What makes CBD oil special?

As we’ve already mentioned, CBD is created from the buds of cannabis plants, but unlike the cannabis plant itself, CBD won’t leave you with the lasting side effects of marijuana, such as the feeling of being high.

However, what makes it special is that you can still reap the health benefits that the cannabis plant possesses without the undesired aftereffects of consuming cannabis in other ways, many of which we explain below.

What are the health benefits of CBD oil?

Reduce anxiety and depression

The world is a strange place at the moment and it feels like anxiety-inducing events are around every turn, however, CBD could help.

CBD Oil offers a more natural alternative to the usual pharmaceuticals that are usually administered to help people cope with anxiety. Of course, you should always follow your doctor’s advice when it comes to any medication and how best to manage any anxiety you may have, but the strides forward in recent scientific studies relating to CBD and the possibilities it holds for those suffering with anxiety continue to be promising.

Effective pain-relief

As we touched on earlier, cannabis has been used in medicine in various forms for thousands of years, and often it would be to provide effective pain relief.

In 2021, scientific research has shown that there are several components within the cannabis plant that are responsible for providing effective pain relief, one of which is CBD.

The National Library of Medicine highlights that the way CBD helps to provide pain relief is due to the way it affects the endocannabinoid system (commonly known as the ECS) within the body.

Healthline clarifies the relationship of CBD and the ECS, explaining that “Studies have shown that CBD may help reduce chronic pain by impacting endocannabinoid receptor activity, reducing inflammation and interacting with neurotransmitters.”

Helps you sleep

Whether you’re busy with everyday life, lockdown number 3,243 is getting you down or you’re an involuntary night owl, catching some Zs has never been important, yet it’s becoming increasingly difficult for people the world over.

However, As with anxiety, this is an area of your life that CBD may be able to help.

Not only have recent studies shown that CBD Oil can help you fall asleep, but it can also help you sleep for longer!

Improve skin health

The health of your skin can be affected by a number of contributing factors including genetics, inflammation and bacteria.

The anti-inflammatory properties of CBD can help reduce inflammation and help reduce the appearance of oily skin thanks to its natural ability to reduce the production of Sebum, an oily substance produced by glands in the skin.
